GIORDANO PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA RESERVA 

Primitivo is arguably more well known in other parts of the world by its alter-ego Zinfandel. Although genetically the same, Primitivo has its own genuine Italian character and this fantastic example has it in spades.

This is a deep dark red with a sumptuous bouquet that offers up rich, ripe raisiny fruit without being too raisined – more like drying out red and purple grapes with hints of dark chocolate and liquorice. Smooth and flowing in the palate; the fruit so concentrated and ultra-ripe – redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit with prunes and spice nicely brought into check by a savoury undercurrent with something that reminds me of bitumen roads after rain and touches of herbs but overall succulent and juicy with a mellow aura.
