The supercool squat bottles and the heavily embossed labels got our hopes up that something special was on the cards here and after one taste we knew that Montidori has completely delivered on all that visual promise. This wine is wonderful; a generous and mouth filling Sangiovese that floods the palate with velvet-smooth flavours in the spicy red fruit spectrum – and those flavours go on and on. Sangiovese is the grape variety of Chianti but Montidori has brought plushness and silken weight to the party and anyone who buys this wine will immediately know what we are talking about. A portion of the grapes have been dried in small baskets in order to concentrate the flavours and the result is a rich, dark, intense wine with soft spicy notes.
Sangiovese produces wines that have high acidity and tannins. Leading flavours are bitter cherries, violets, red plum, mulberries, and blackcurrants. Particularly ripe examples made in the best vintages will have darker fruit flavours such as raisins and prunes
