Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 2012
The name Stonewell was chosen in recognition of the high quality shiraz grapes being grown around Stonewell Road in the Marananga district of the Barossa. While the winery owns a vineyard called Stonewell in this district, the grapes for Stonewell Shiraz are not limited to this one vineyard and come from individual growers in a number of Barossa sub-districts, particularly those to the west and the north where hard dry soils give rise to low-yielding shiraz of great quality.
97 – James Halliday, The Wine Companion
“Has retained exceptional deep crimson-purple colour; as the time perspective increases, so does the stature of the ’12 vintage, and its longevity. Here an ocean of full-bodied black fruits has tides of tannins and quality oak all playing off and enhancing each other on the prodigiously long palate.”
97 – Natalie MacLean
“Exceptional from start to finish. Still tarry and young, needing cellar time, but it’s smokin’ hot already. Stonewell selects its exceptional fruit from a sub-region of the western Barossa Valley, from vines that were planted in 1885, the oldest in the region. The 2012 vintage is a powerful one that has a long life ahead of it.”
